INSMA announces Governing Body for 2024-2027

The Directors of INSMA met with the founding members of INSMA on November 11, 2023 virtually and the following members were co-opted/elected for roles in the Governing Body. 

Ms. Taruka Srivastava has been elected as the Vice-President (Marketing) of the organisation. In her role, she will be developing and executing corporate sustainability initiatives and strategies, and diversity goals of the Organisation.

Ms. Srivastava is a former Indian athlete, having represented the country in Asian Games (Guangzhou 2010) and pursued a post graduate degree in journalism from Sheffield Hallam University (with a scholarship).

She brings a vast amount of industrial experience to the Governing Body, having worked as a Venue Press Officer during FIFA U17 World Cup 2017 in India, work experience in the Digital Media team of Manchester United and social media co-ordinator of Liverpool Football Club in India.

Dr. Shiny Raizada has been elected as the Vice-President (Education) of the organisation. In her role, she will be developing partnerships with educational insitutions, developing strategies to increase and retain the membership subscriptions, identifying potential funding opportunities and assist in planning and execution of annual INSMA Conference.

Dr. Raizada is an Assistant Professor of Sport Science in the Symbiosis School of Sport Sciences, Pune and holds a PhD in Sport Physiology and Biomechanics from Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior.

A recreational tennis player these days, Dr. Raizada brings a vast amount of academic expertise to the Organisation, having taught for 6 years and presented in internationally acclaimed conferences such as European Sport Management Conference 2023, organised by EASM.

Arup Soans

Mr. Arup Soans has been elected as the General Secretary of the organisation. In his role as the Secretary of the Organisation, he will be responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the organisation and represent the organisation in continental sport management societies, such as AASM.

Mr. Soans works as a freelance Business Consultant and runs KiteTalks, which is a platform for talks by global industry experts, paving the way for learning and interaction both online and offline. He also holds a Masters degree in Sports Business from New York University.

Mr. Soans brings a vast amount of academic & industry experience to the Governing Body, having delivered his expertise from working in the FIFA U17 World Cup 2017 as Head of Marketing as a Guest Lecturer in GISB-India, AISTS-India and XAVIER-EMLYON Business School.

Mr. Arko Biswas has been appointed as the Treasurer of the organisation. He will be responsible for ensuring that the financial position of the Organisation is sound and will maintain the official account of the Organisation.

Mr. Biswas is an entrepreneur, who works in the Sports Technology domain and holds a MBA in Marketing from IIM Indore. He has also won the runner-up prize in the Entrepreneurship Startup World Cup in 2019. He also the the experience of working as an independent consultant for Indian Premier League franchisees and English Premier League clubs.

Mr. Sarthak Mondal has been appointed as the President of the organisation. In his role, he shall be responsible for ensuring compliance of all statutory formalities and Rules and Regulations of the Organisation. He will also be responsible for assigning additional responsibilities to members of the Governing Body, as deemed suitable.

Mr. Mondal works as a Lecturer (Asst. Prof. equivalent) in Sport Management in the University of Portsmouth. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Sport Business Management as a Transform Together Scholar from Sheffield Hallam University, before being given a fully funded opportunity to pursue his Doctoral studies in Sport Economics and Governance.

Mr. Mondal brings a vast amount of academic expertise to the Organisation, having presented in multiple international conferences, authoring multiple academic studies and working on commissioned research with NGBs and sport promoters.

The Governing Body will officially take charge on January 1, 2024 and the tenure will last on December 31, 2027. The roles for Vice-President (ESG) and Vice-President (Research) will be discharged by the Ms. Taruka Srivastava and Dr. Shiny Raizada, respectively until new appointments are made. Permanent appointments for all other positions shall be made by November 30, 2024.
